Overview
OGTRTA is a meta-conlang that I started work on in 2023. It has no concrete phonology, lexicon, or morphology: it is almost entirely concerned with the syntax and lexical semantics of the language. Its purpose is to provide a skeletal structure for any future conlangs I create, ensuring that they start out internally consistent and remain so as they grow.
OGTRTA may seem abstract, almost like a programming language for languages. That isn't entirely accidental. OGTRTA co-evolved with my program Audition, which is essentially a compiler for conlang grammars. OGTRTA provides structure, but doesn't restrict you. If you master OGTRTA, you will find the grammars of thousands of languages almost ready-made within you, needing only to be clothed in sound and meaning to be made whole.
Parts of speech
OGTRTA is built around five parts of speech:
Word order and reversibility
OGTRTA is a reversible syntax, meaning that if you reverse the right-hand-side of all the production rules, you still get a coherent language. This allows OGTRTA languages to have four different word orders in main clauses:
- SOV
- OVS
- VSO
- SVO
